Engine cooling pumps for generator recirculation can be either centrifugal pumps or flexible impeller pumps. Centrifugal pumps are engineered for pulley drive, featuring heavy-duty ball bearings and mechanical seals. These centrifugal pumps can effectively handle contaminated liquids without the need for lubrication. All pedestal and flange-mounted Flexible Impeller Pumps are made of high-quality bronze with maximum corrosion resistance. All shafts are made of stainless steel.
Oberdorfer Centrifugal Pump 50P
Oberdorfer centrifugal pumps feature a single rotating metal impeller. Liquid enters at the center and is propelled outward by centrifugal force, with no physical contact between the impeller and other pump components. This design results in a quiet and efficient pumping operation. The flow generated is not positive, allowing the discharge line to be completely shut off without risking motor overload or line rupture. As a result, there's no need for a relief valve.
The liquid flow is directly proportional to the pump speed, meaning higher speed results in greater flow. The horsepower required is directly related to both flow and pressure. Maximum horsepower is needed when the discharge line is wide open, representing the point of maximum flow. When the discharge is throttled, the flow decreases more rapidly than the pressure increases, resulting in reduced horsepower requirements at higher pressures. This is known as an "unloading" feature of the pump.
In the case of the 50P centrifugal pump, it includes an external ball bearing that is isolated from the pumped liquid. This ball bearing is pre-greased and sealed for its entire operational life, eliminating the need for maintenance.

Oberdorfer Centrifugal Pump 60P
Oberdorfer™ centrifugal pumps feature a single metal impeller in continuous rotation. As liquid is introduced at the center, centrifugal force propels it outward. Importantly, the impeller operates without any direct contact with other pump components, ensuring a quiet and efficient pumping process. The flow generated is non-positive, allowing for the complete closure of the discharge line without the risk of motor overload or line rupture. A relief valve is not required.
The rate of liquid flow corresponds directly to the speed of the pump—higher speeds result in greater flow. The amount of horsepower needed varies in direct relation to both the flow and the pressure. Maximum horsepower is demanded when the discharge line is fully open, representing the point of maximum flow. When the discharge is regulated, the flow decreases more rapidly than the pressure increases, leading to a reduced requirement for horsepower at higher pressures. This characteristic is referred to as the "unloading" feature of the pump.
The 60P centrifugal pump has an external ball bearing isolated from the liquid being pumped. The ball bearing is greased and sealed for life, requiring no maintenance.

Oberdorfer N202M Flexible Impeller Pump
The N202M bronze impeller pumps offer a range of practical features, such as a user-friendly drain plug, compatibility with both 2 or 5-bolt flange mounting, a choice between slotted shaft drive or male tang drive options, upward-facing inlet and outlet ports, and generously sized drain and vent openings. These pumps come with standard neoprene rubber impellers, but you also have the option to select nitrile impellers. The impeller's flexible blades on its outer edge facilitate the pumping process, as the impeller rotates, squeezing the liquid between these blades continuously towards the discharge port. This action is assisted by a precisely machined cam located within the pump chamber.
