PART 1 - GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

A. The contractor shall furnish and install polymer preparation system(s). Each system shall be a complete skid mounted unit which dilutes and activates all liquid polymers. The unit shall be designed for operation at a maximum of 100 psi at 100 oF. The unit shall be tested at 150 psi.

B. The equipment manufacturer will be responsible for providing a complete system as described herein, and for delivering the equipment to the job site. The equipment shall be installed by the contractor, who will be responsible for off-loading the equipment, providing temporary storage and installing the equipment in place. Installation will include mounting the unit, piping the unit, and providing power and control wiring to the unit.

C. All equipment specified herein shall be fabricated, assembled, erected and placed in proper operating condition in full conformity with the drawings, engineering data, specifications, instructions, and recommendations of the equipment manufacturer. The polymer preparation equipment shall be the product of suppliers regularly engaged in the design and manufacture of polymer preparation systems and shall be specifically designed for the intended service. Appurtenant equipment shall be new and shall be designed, fabricated and assembled in accordance with the best engineering and shop practices. Individual parts shall be manufactured to standard sizes and gauges. Components shall be designed for the stresses which may occur during fabrication, shipping, erection or maintenance. Materials shall be suitable for service conditions as described herein.

D. The unit shall be completely tested in the assembly facility.

SUBMITTALS:

A. The contractor / manufacturer submittals shall include the following:

1.Shop Drawings

2.Equipment Layout Drawings

3.Pump Data

4.Complete Wiring Diagram.

5.Catalogues, bulletins etc. of the equipment.

PART 2 โ€“ PRODUCTS

MANUFACTURER:

A. PolymerPlus as manufactured by Burt Process Equipment, Model 100-PC

B. Approved equal conforming to these specifications and provisions.

MATERIALS: The frame shall be of stainless steel for corrosion resistance. All fasteners shall be stainless steel. No coated steel or aluminum components may be used. The frame shall be designed for easy access to all components. The polymer pump shall have all wetted metal parts made of 316 ss. The rotameter shall be of plastic construction. The activation chamber components shall be made of PVC, acrylic, and stainless steel. Electrical components shall be assembled in watertight non-metallic enclosures. Polymer piping shall be plastic. Polymer valves shall be polypropylene or stainless steel. The calibration column shall be polypropylene. The polymer injection valve shall have a Hastelloy-C spring. The solenoid valve shall be brass.

POLYMER PUMP: The polymer pump shall be a a progressive cavity pump. Wetted parts are made of Stainless steel and Viton. The pump shall have a mechanical seal. Lip seals and packing type seals are not allowed. The pump is driven by a totally enclosed DC motor. The motor speed can be controlled locally or by a remote 4-20 mA signal. A ten turn potentiometer allows local fine motor speed control. Maximum pump speed is limited to 600 RPM. The pump capacity shall range from ______to ______at _____ psig.

POLYMER ACTIVATION SYSTEM

The polymer activation system shall mix the water and polymer by hydraulic energy with no back mixing. Motor operated systems shall not be used. The activation system shall automatically compensate for changes in solution flow to provide constant activation energy. Systems which require the operator to manually adjust valves to set the activation energy levels will not be allowed.

SIGHT GLASS:

The unit shall have a sight glass or system to allow the operator to see that it is operating properly. The sight glass shall be capable of disassembly, without using tools, and shall have a cleaning mechanism that does not require operator attention.

POLYMER PIPING:

Polymer piping shall be of polypropylene with sections of polyethylene tubing or reinforced hose to allow easy disassembly. A polypropylene calibration chamber and polypropylene isolation valves shall be included to allow checking the polymer pump flow rate. The polymer injection valve to the activation apparatus shall be easily accessible without disturbing the other components. A vent valve shall be included to allow priming the polymer pump.

WATER PIPING AND CONTROLS:

Water piping shall be of brass or schedule 80 PVC with sections of reinforced hose to allow easy disassembly. The piping shall include a brass strainer with a stainless steel 20 mesh screen. A low water flow cut-off switch shall turn off the polymer pump whenever the water flow drops below minimum. The pump is to automatically restart when the rate of flow resumes. If the water flow does not resume within 10 seconds, the feeder is to shut down and alarm. The switch shall be actuated only by water flow. Switches that only detect water pressure will not be allowed. A rotameter to measure the rate of water flow shall be included. The rotameter shall have a flow control valve. Valves shall be provided to allow draining the mixing apparatus and the water strainer. A solenoid valve shall be included. The feeder is to be able to operate at water pressure as low as 30 psi. Dilution water flow range shall be ____ to ____ gph.

ELECTRICAL CONTROL:

Electrical enclosure shall be NEMA-4X. It is to include all electrical components. Switches shall allow local or remote Start / Stop control and Pump Speed control. A digital display is to show the pump speed scaled to indicate the polymer feed rate. A lockable disconnect switch shall be provided. Terminals shall be provided for all input and output signals. The system shall operate at 120 volts. Total power consumption shall be less than 1200 watts. All components are to be UL Listed. A thermal dispersion low polymer flow switch shall provide pump protection from low flow conditions. The switch setting shall be adjustable to below the minimum pump flow rate. The switch shall be easily accessible for inspection and cleaning.

FRAME:

The frame shall be made of welded stainless steel. All fasteners shall be stainless steel. The frame shall be designed for easy access to all components.
